CHIC, located at No. 9, Chongwenmen West Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing, is a hidden gem tucked away in the former site of the Belgian embassy. It is an oasis of peace amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, situated in a prosperous area.
As a showstopper, a classical-style island serves as a focal point of the space, taking inspiration from the elements of the Brussels Palace of Justice from 1866. This representative Belgian building emphasizes the elegance of symmetry, arches, courtyards, and stone pillars, highlighting the importance that history has in inspiring continued innovation. Lighting was designed to create various colorful scenes—at times like a sunset, other times like a flame, and sometimes as deep as the ocean with a calming blue hue. On the stacked islands, color-changing linear lights at the bottom of each layer were installed to bring out its defining features, creating a captivating atmosphere that could reach its climax with carefully implemented lighting treatments.
For the rest of the space, we used a combination of track lights and candles to provide general illumination and highlight guests' faces. We also added decorative wall sconces and picture lights to the lounge areas to draw attention to art pieces and create a visually appealing atmosphere.
Light has endowed the space with different experiences and emotions—in CHIC, let the light bring you a nostalgic and unique life experience.
